A pesar de lo que sugiere el título, este libro no habla de racismo. Trata más de corazón que de colores. Cuenta la historia del príncipe ashanti Aquasi Boachi y su adaptación a la sociedad holandesa del siglo XIX, pero no al modo decimonónico. Esta novela pertenece por entero a nuestro tiempo. Arthur Japin, con una pluma sutil e inteligente, nos lleva de escenario en escenario, de época en época, entre la madurez y la infancia, atrapados por un dilema profundo: la crisis de adaptación y el deseo de pertenencia. Príncipe entre los hombres, negro entre los blancos, extranjero entre los suyos, anciano entre los jóvenes, Aquasi Boachi es igual a cualquiera de nosotros. Todos somos emigrantes. Viajamos de una circunstancia a otra. La obra de Japin nos pregunta si viajamos con nuestro corazón o lo dejamos atrás, en algún espacio o algún tiempo que nunca fue enteramente nuestro. En la mirada sagaz del príncipe africano, el lector encontrará quizá un rostro hermano y un hogar para el hombre de corazón inquieto.
